Proust’s treasure, the madeleine, comes straight from the Meuse region, from the town of Commercy to be precise. This soft, sweet, shell-shaped cake is a favorite with adults and children alike.
This delicacy was created in 1755 in the Château de Commercy, when King Stanislas of Poland asked his cook, Madeleine, to make an original cake for the reception of Voltaire and Madame de Châtelet.
