Domaine de la Maison Forte
More than just a house!
Céline welcomes you for a "pampering" stay
“ La Maison Forte is exactly the charming escape you need. It’s not me saying it, it’s our customers themselves!
If I’ve embarked on this new life in a guest house, it’s because I always enjoy welcoming my guests: couples, families, groups of friends or business travelers… I love chatting, and there’s always a story to share. Enjoying these moments and sharing them with others, taking care of people; that’s my credo!
What marks out my family and friends? My particular attention to detail, even the seemingly insignificant ones. Because when it comes down to it… they’re perhaps the most important thing in appreciating life’s little pleasures.
I’m also driven by a sense of discovery and sharing. I’ll be happy to explain the history of the Domaine and the surrounding places of interest and activities in the Meuse region, to help you make the most of your stay.
Welcome to Domaine de la Maison Forte! “

The origins of the estate
A little history… The fortress changed hands several times. Around 1270, Jean Lietaut de Revigny became its lord. By the end of the 14th century, it was in the possession of Duke Robert de Bar.
A victim of several attacks in the 15th century, it was captured around 1424 by the Gascon Etienne de Vignolles, captain of Vitry, nicknamed “la Hire”. At the time, he was not yet the loyal comrade-in-arms of Joan of Arc, whom he would later join and make a name for himself. He seized the fortress from which he led an incendiary devastation of the Barrois region.
Liberated in 1427 by Georges de Nettancourt, it was restored in 1559 for the passage of the King of France and partly destroyed in 1636 by Louis XIII at war with Duke Charles IV. The latter then sold it to “sieur Saurin”, lieutenant of the chevau-légers.
Besieged again in the 17th century during the Thirty Years’ War, it passed in 1749 to Bernard II de Marne, councillor to the Bailliage of Bar, and then to the heirs of the Princess of Epinois.
Successive owners gradually modified the building, notably by removing the moat and drawbridge.
